We hope this article provides tips that help you better photograph the personalities of the people and pets in your life!

How to Take Great Pictures of People

The best pictures of people portray their personalities. While a picture may capture the person in the moment, sometimes the picture doesn’t accurately reflect the person’s usual expressions or appearance. The solution to this problem is simple: After setting up your photo shoot, spend a little time chatting with the subject, camera ready. When you see that perfect expression start snapping pictures.

A few technical tips:

  • Keep in mind that Portrait mode tends to distort, making the subject look wider or younger. Depending on the age of the subject, the latter might be appreciated, but normally you would avoid this distortion by zooming. Stand close enough so the subject fills the camera’s viewfinder and then take one step backwards, zoom again to fill the frame and shoot your picture.

America's Best Autograph Auctions

By Jerry J. Jansen On March 8, 2010 NO COMMENTS

America’s best autograph auctions provide great opportunities for buying and selling autographs.  Autograph collectors may acquire preciously rare items that would otherwise be nearly impossible to obtain.  Autograph sellers are fortunate to have a wide variety of top-notch auctioneers to choose from.

The autograph auction business is highly competitive.  Even though there is a wide variety of autographed memorabilia, the number of collectors is growing and just as importantly, the number of collectors willing and able to spend large sums of money to acquire choice items are also growing.  As a result, there is a proliferation of autograph auction houses that are happy to receive your consignments and eager to sell them for hefty profits.

When consigning an autograph for auction, consider reputation and experience.  Some auction companies have become bankrupt while holding consignments.  Just like holding shares of stock in a bankrupt company, consignors have lost their autographed memorabilia in similar scenarios.

Companies such as Alexander Autographs (Connecticut), East Coast Books (Maine), ebay (San Jose), Heritage (Dallas, Texas), Nate’s Autographs (Los Angeles), Profiles in History (Los Angeles), and Sotheby’s (New York) are stable auctioneers that have been in business for many years.  These auctioneers are highly regarded among autograph buyers and sellers.  However,

Howard Hughes And His Bank Signature Card

By Jerry J. Jansen On March 7, 2010 NO COMMENTS

Howard Hughes autographs are scarce.  In 1951, when Howard Hughes autographed his bank signature card after moving to California, he was earning over $2 million a month and would soon become one of America’s first billionaires.  Although Hughes spent almost no time in Texas after the 1930s, he continued to list it as the location of his permanent residence.

The foundation of the Hughes fortune was the Hughes Tool Company in Houston, Texas, founded by his father Howard Hughes Sr.  After Hughes Sr. died, his son had the enviable luxury of having a steady stream of tremendous income without direct managerial responsibility.

Hughes moved to southern California and lived briefly with his screenwriter uncle Rupert Hughes.  Enamored with Hollywood, Hughes financed and produced motion pictures, and dated some of Hollywood’s most glamorous women such as Billie Dove, Ava Gardner, and Kathryn Hepburn.

Hughes founded the Hughes Aircraft Company in 1932.  The Hughes Aircraft Company produced the famous Spruce Goose transport aircarft.  Hughes’s popularity soard and an alleged autobiography allegedly written with the cooperation of Clifford Irvind was proven false.  While in prison Irving wrote, “it’s harder to get to the Oracle at Delphi than it is Hughes.”  Lockheed executive Jack Real was the only man who
